The Technical Director at this wood panel plant in Minnesota is responsible for coordinating day to day technical/lab duties, quality assurance testing, in-process quality control and maintaining that APA and quality control specifications are adhered to. Further duties include safety regulation and implementation.
It is the responsibility of each and every staff employee to investigate and correct issues of quality observed by the employee and/or reported to them that pertain to their sphere of responsibility.
It is the responsibility of each and every staff employee to forward quality assurance concerns, preferably in writing, through the company procedure, to the department from which the quality concern arises.
Establish vision and plans for QC function and process management
Identify opportunities for strengthening and managing leading indicators of process performance
Set clear expectations for and make effective use of QC/lab team
Routinely identify cost saving opportunities in board manufacturing
Make effective use of all data tracking tools including use of SPC charts
Monitor key panel properties to ensure they meet minimum standards
Monitor key process variables that affect raw material usages. Ensure raw material usages are not only at expected levels but also match financial reporting of same in the P&L
Interface with and maintain strong working relationships with production and maintenance teams. Identify and support improvement opportunities.
Full and active involvement in opportunities for best practice sharing and implementation by participating in tech manager calls and visits as well as establishing a strong working relationship with company’s technologies.
Build strong relationship with key raw material suppliers to leverage technical support from same
- A degree in Wood Science, Engineering or other similar field is preferred.
- The individual should have at least five years of experience in wood products manufacturing plant, preferably particleboard, Particleboard, Plywood, MDF or OSB and proven in-depth knowledge of these processes and technical requirements.
- The individual should possess at least 5 years of wood panel technical and supervision experience.
