Description:

The Sawmill Supervisor in Louisiana will be accountable for the sawmill production by managing staff, participating in the overall administration of ensuring safety, process, procedures, policies, production and accountable for metrics and performance on a day-to-day basis. The ideal individual will have strong leadership skills and the ability to get work done through others. 

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required
  • Degree or technical certificate in a related field preferred, but not required.
  • 2+ years of experience in lumber or wood products manufacturing required.
  • 2+ years of experience in supervisory role required.   
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to interact with and motivate a diverse group of employees
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proven leadership abilities.
  • Must be willing to work flexible work schedules to be available nights, weekends, and after hours if necessary.
  • Knowledge of lumber manufacturing equipment, procedures, and production/quality standards
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent computer skills, particularly Microsoft Excel and Outlook.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Ability to think critically, analyze situations, and offer solutions.
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities under demanding circumstances.

Responsibilities:

  • Actively manage and reduce downtime through quick analysis of options and finding solutions.
  • Assure that all machinery, equipment, and work areas are maintained properly.  Work with Maintenance to coordinate preventive maintenance, expedite repairs, and schedule equipment updates, additions, and/or replacements.
  • Engage production and maintenance workers to achieve targets, meet expectations and address deficiencies in a productive and professional manner.
  • Ensure quality standards are met throughout the manufacturing process.
  • Foster a culture of open and respectful communication.
  • Maintain documentation for department operations, counselling notices, attendance, etc.
  • Maintain the highest standards with respect to safety at all times, leading by example and ensuring employees follow all policies, procedures, practices and regulations.
  • Manage and identify opportunities to improve productivity, reduce costs, and maximize the quality, value and recovery of lumber produced.
  • Participate with interviews and selection of new hires.
  • Prepare required operating reports (e.g. work hours, production levels, quality testing, etc.).
  • Provide ongoing coaching and mentoring to employees. Observe workers for potential future leadership potential.
  • Resolve operating, scheduling, and productions issues as needed.
  • Supervise operations to assure planned output at the highest practical efficiency.
  • Supervise, train, direct and coordinate work and cross-training of the department’s crew.
  • Work with Mill Manager, Superintendent, and other supervisors to optimize productivity.
  • Work with peers and supervisor to develop production schedules and budgets and to coordinate movement of material in and out of work area.
