Wage and Benefit Ranges – Updated January 1, 2024

We update this list yearly based on clients and candidates’ discussions. What we often find is you get what you pay for, from equipment to materials and supervisors through managers. We talk to candidates and employers all day long about the wages and benefits they presently give and get and what candidates will need to take some other job. Highly qualified candidates get noticed by others who are willing to steal them away from competition.

USA Wood Products Salary Ranges in $USD – Updated Yearly

  1. CEO, COO, CFO     $300K to $1million+/year plus bonus
  2. Vice President          $180k and up plus bonus
  3. General Manager     $120k - $350k plus bonus
  4. Sales Managers       $65k-$200k and up. Bonus to twice salary
  5. Plant Manager          $85k-$270k plus bonus. 3+ weeks vacation
  6. Engineers                 $80k-$200k depending on experience and degree.
  7. PLC Technicians      $90k -$200k and typically over $135k.
  8. Superintendents       $100k-$180k plus bonus. 3- 4 weeks vacation
  9. Technical Directors   $100k-$180k plus bonus. 3-4 weeks vacation
  10. Supervisors              $50-$110k plus slight bonus. 2 weeks vacation

Benefits vary from company to company, but it is important when making an offer to provide details on all medical and health benefits, relocation package, vacation, and holidays, non-competes, severance packages, sign on bonus, and bonus package. Most companies will offer a relocation package that includes a couple travel trips for the employee and spouse for house hunting, realtor support for both houses, 2-3 months of temporary living, professional packing and moving. Closing cost on a new house is rarely seen. Often relocation cost will be loaded for taxes too, so the new employee does not have to pay the taxes. Often when these are not spelled out for upper management positions, candidates reject the offer until they get the facts or take better offers with better details and benefits. Medical benefits need to include all the details and not just the basics. We recommend that you provide all the standard benefit details before a salary and bonus offer and then these are discussed to confirm that the offer will be expected first. We advise employers to never simply email an offer without getting the candidate to know and accept verbally an offer. We always tell the employer what the candidate expects for wages and benefits.
