Description:
The Service and Sales Technician is a dual-role professional acting as the primary face of company at customer mills and facilities. You will be responsible for the mechanical maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of industrial woodworking machinery (planer-matchers, surfacers, etc.) while simultaneously identifying opportunities to sell OEM parts, machine upgrades, and service contracts. We are looking for a unique individual who is as comfortable with a wrench in their hand as they are with a sales quote. You won’t just be fixing machines; you’ll be helping our customers grow. You will visit mills across North America to evaluate their equipment, perform expert repairs, and consult on the latest upgrades and OEM parts that keep their operations profitable.
Requirements:
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- At least two years of experience as a mechanical field service provider with excellent customer service skills. Wood Products Industry experience is preferred.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and strong mechanical troubleshooting skills are required.
- Basic understanding of PLC/VFD control systems and electrical troubleshooting is highly preferred.
- Ability to professionally "upsell" value-added services and parts based on actual machine needs.
- Knowledge of MS Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint required.
- Ability to analyze information, make judgments, build strong relationships, maintain equipment, communicate effectively (both written and verbal), write reports, maintain confidentiality, achieve results, focus on quality.
- 50-75% travel regionally to customers mills
Responsibilities:
- Act as a trusted advisor to mill managers and maintenance teams, ensuring they have the right tooling and parts to minimize downtime.
- Assist with the installation of new equipment and lead training sessions for customer operators on best practices and safety.
- Document all service calls, mechanical findings, and sales leads through detailed field reports.
- Identify worn parts or outdated systems during inspections; generate quotes for OEM replacements and retrofits.
- Perform machine evaluations, preventative maintenance, and emergency repairs on equipment at customer sites.
