Description:
The Sawmill Maintenance Supervisor in Louisiana is responsible for assigning work to and daily training of maintenance millwrights to ensure work is completed in a timely, safe, and professional manner. Internally the position interfaces with co-workers and employees to ensure the smooth operation of the facility, coordinates work with production to prevent unnecessary down time and adjusts work schedules to accommodate emergency breakdowns. Primary challenges to this position include meeting production targets, maintaining staffing requirements within budget, meeting quality guidelines and maintaining alignment between all departments through effective communication. The position has the authority to train and direct the workforce within the prescribed policies, procedures, and regulations of the operation.
Requirements:
- University degree or technical certification is preferred
- A minimum of three years’ experience sawmill maintenance supervision.
- Excellent computer skills including MS Office.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
- Have excellent time management and organizational skills.
- Have excellent problem-solving skills.
- Knowledge of high production sawmills.
- Strong troubleshooting skills in the electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic area.
- Strong mechanical and welding knowledge.
- Must be a legal US resident. Unfortunately, there is no visa sponsorship offered for this role.
Responsibilities:
- Ability to recognize unsafe behaviors in employees and supervisors.
- Supervises, coordinates, plans and oversees day-to-day and long-term maintenance of the sawmill to ensure quality work and minimal downtime in a safe and efficient manner at the mill.
- Collects information from various sources to ensure that the appropriate parts and materials are on site in order to accomplish the tasks needed done.
- Plans daily maintenance including filling out work orders and distributing them to the appropriate personnel.
- Reviews downtime to determine causes and prevention.
- Plans and coordinates service calls from various vendors, contractors and OEM's.
- Performs activities related to the storeroom.
- Plans and coordinates long-term tasks (weekly, monthly, and annually).
- Schedules and plans overtime and time-off for maintenance personnel.
- Performs safety inspections and attends safety meetings as needed.
- Trains millwrights and new maintenance employees.
- Performs such individual assignments as management may direct.
- Establishes and maintains effective work relationships within the department, the company and the community.
- Complies with environmental regulations when using, dispensing or handling hazardous or non-hazardous materials and waste.
- Maintains the professional competence, ethical integrity, knowledge and skills necessary for the satisfactory performance of all assigned responsibilities.
- Performs work following safety procedures and practices.
- Regular attendance is required between the assigned start and end times for work. Exhibits regular and punctual attendance habit to comply with existing attendance requirements.
- Works in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner.
