Description:

The Safety Manager in Texas will report to the Plant Manager.  The Safety Manager will implement policies to ensure a safe and healthy work environment.  Ensures compliance with all federal, state, and local laws in occupational safety and health.  Consults with company management, contractors and other professionals in the health and safety fields.  Provide technical or management training to company personnel to meet or exceed OSHA standards. Develop risk control capabilities specific to company hazards not covered under OSHA state or federal standard regulations, to assist management in reducing or eliminating the risk of incident or injury. Provide recommendations with action steps to maintain a risk control program performance level that will significantly reduce or eliminate hazardous risk which could harm or endanger the company’s employees and or private citizens. 

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Technology, Behavioral Health Science, or other related degree.
  • 5+ years of safety experience in manufacturing environment.
  • Professional certification or ability to obtain within 1 year (CSP, SMS, COSM, etc.)
  • Knowledge and ability to comprehend and apply government safety rules, including OSHA and NIOSH protocols to a manufacturing environment
  • Capable of facility safety and environmental audits, root-cause analyses, and group problem solving
  • Capable of effectively influencing front-line management to enact safety programming / processes to achieve an accident-free environment

Key Knowledge and Skills:

  • Extensive knowledge of safety regulations and policies.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.

Responsibilities:

  • Develops and implements inspection policies and procedures, and a schedule of routine inspections.
  • Develops health and safety procedures for all areas of the company.
  • Drafts inspection reports to document inspection findings.
  • Ensures that material safety data sheets are maintained and readily accessible when needed.
  • Inspects the facility to identify health and safety risks.
  • Maintains records of discharge of or employee exposure to hazardous waste and/or pollutants, as required.
  • Manages all OSHA reporting requirements.
  • Monitors compliance with safety procedures.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
  • Prepares and schedules training to cover emergency procedures, workplace safety, and other relevant topics.
