Description:

The General Manager located in Virginia will be responsible for managing and overseeing manufacturing operations and performance ensuring quality, efficiency, and profitability.  He or She will plan production schedules, identifying productivity goals, and monitoring processes to ensure efficiency and compliance in the manufacturing process.  The General Manager must exhibit strong leadership qualities, give clear direction, think proactively, and have a high degree of accountability.  They will develop strategies that make certain the production goals are met at a minimal cost and drive efficiency and ensure products are produced lean with minimal downtime.  He or She will establish strategic direction for manufacturing and sales, aligning goals with companywide strategies to consistently exceed customer expectations.  The General Manager is critical to the successful production of the product being manufactured and responsible for achieving financial objectives, implementing best practices, and fostering culture of continuous improvement

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business, or related field is preferred. 
  • 10+ years of leadership in manufacturing experience.  Wood products industry experience is highly preferred.
  • Working knowledge and deep understanding of lean manufacturing principles and sales/marketing strategies
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving ability with a data-driven approach
  • Proven leadership in motivating high-performing, cross-functional teams
  • Proven ability to bridge the gap between manufacturing and sales to create a seamless customer experience
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, ERP & CRM software
  • Must be willing to travel monthly as well as 2 trade shows/year
  • Ability to manage multiple employees, departments, and priorities in a fast-paced environment

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with procurement and sourcing teams to manage relationships with suppliers and vendors
  • Develop and maintain customer relationships to drive growth and customer satisfaction
  • Drive continuous improvement and cost-reduction initiatives
  • Establish and enforce quality control standards to deliver products that meet or exceed customer expectations
  • Foster collaboration and communication between manufacturing and sales teams, translating customer needs into high-quality products and seamless sales initiatives
  • Implement and monitor safety protocols and initiatives to minimize accidents and incidents
  • Implement lean principles and continuous improvement to maximize efficiency and product quality
  • Lead sales department in setting and exceeding performance goals, conduct performance evaluations, and support employee development plans
  • Manage approx. $150MIL in sales volume
  • Manage overall plant operations, production, sales, quality, and safety
  • Negotiate with suppliers to secure timely delivery of materials at competitive prices, balancing cost, quality, and customer satisfaction
  • Oversee all production aspects (scheduling, budgeting, inventory, quality control)
  • Provide strong leadership and mentorship to the manufacturing team, fostering a positive and motivated work environment
