Description:
The Maintenance Superintendent located in Louisiana will lead the successful development and implementation of the mills reliability program as well as manage the maintenance and electrical departments in all things related to equipment reliability, talent acquisition, and team leadership and development. The Maintenance Superintendent will lead the overall manufacturing operations by utilizing sound manufacturing philosophies and by engaging people and managing through processes to drive sustainable performance while maintaining positive employee relations, meeting the company’s production goals, while operating within company policies, guidelines, and regulatory requirements.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering / electrical engineering or related field is preferred.
- 5+ years of manufacturing maintenance experience with a strong background in reliability. Minimum of 3 years of supervisor experience in manufacturing maintenance, wood products industry experience strongly preferred.
- Strong understanding of reliability engineering principles and asset management best practices.
- Strong track record for implementing continuous improvement initiatives in a maintenance or asset management environment.
- Proven ability to develop and implement KPI’s to measure maintenance effectiveness and efficiency.
- Experience with managing maintenance budgets and allocating resources effectively.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams (engineering, production, procurement) on reliability-focused projects.
- Demonstrated leadership skills to motivate and guide the maintenance team towards a culture of reliability and continuous improvement.
- Computer knowledge including proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and CMMS.
Responsibilities:
- Champion a culture of preventative maintenance throughout the organization. Lead efforts to shift from reactive maintenance approaches to proactive strategies that focus on preventing equipment failures before they occur.
- Communicate regularly with all maintenance technicians, both individually and as a group, to ensure good two-way communication concerning maintenance issues.
- Direct, maintain, and enforce policies and procedures including safety and environmental requirements, upholding maximum safety standards for all maintenance technicians.
- Ensures that all trade technicians are adequately equipped and motivated so that the maintenance program can be accomplished in a safe, timely, and cost-effective manner.
- Establishes and maintains a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) for tracking work orders, spare parts, and maintenance history of plant equipment.
- Facilitates the development and training of employees including coaching and mentoring.
- Initiates and implements non-capital projects that improve efficiency and/or reduce operating costs while working closely with Corporate Engineering on capital projects.
- Manage and direct the activities of plant maintenance and electrical personnel, with gate-to-gate responsibility for the management of contracted workers.
- Manage the maintenance budget to ensure resources are allocated effectively towards maximizing equipment reliability and minimizing downtime costs.
- Manage work schedules to ensure the department’s resources and time are used in the most efficient manner.
- May also have additional responsibilities related to the operations of the plant, as assigned.
- Monitors the use and inventories of spare parts, maintenance supplies, and equipment and initiates reordering when necessary.
- Must be willing to work flexible work schedules as needed, to include days, nights, and weekends.
- Prepares reports, analyzes data, and makes recommendations for improving plant operations and solving maintenance-related problems.
- Responds to repair and modification requests from the Safety Committee and/or Safety and Environmental Manager.
- Reviews the operation of plant equipment and systems constantly, to minimize unplanned downtime, anticipate and solve problems in a timely manner, and to identify opportunities for improvement.
- Tracks, analyzes, and improves key maintenance parameters such as maintenance cost, PM compliance, schedule compliance, etc.
